The Oxidizing Body series emerges from an ongoing investigation into the material nature of photography. In an era where digital images have gradually replaced physical photographs, the visible traces of time, such as fading and yellowing, have become increasingly absent from contemporary image culture. This work reflects on the contemporary pursuit of permanence in images, as well as the sense of temporal detachment embedded within digital media.
By combining the cyanotype process with metal plates, I attempt to construct an image surface that continues to oxidize and transform over time. Through the chemical reactions occurring on the metal surface, the image is no longer fixed in a singular state, but instead evolves alongside time, producing shifting layers of texture, color, and residue. In this way, time itself becomes embedded within the work, re-engaging photography with its fundamental condition as a medium intrinsically tied to time.
